ATTENTION MASSACHUSETTS RESIDENTS: Beware of fraudulent lottery sites and scam letters bearing Lottery and/or Mega Millions logo
The Lottery has learned of two fraudulent uses of its name and games.
The first is a scam letter bearing the Mega Millions logo is being sent out to individuals in Massachusetts via standard mail. This letter notifies supposed winners of their unclaimed “Mega Millions” prize, and also contains a counterfeit check which is drawn from the State Employees Credit Union of Maryland.
The second is a scam letter bearing the Lottery logo from a company named First Union Lottery Payments Center, out of British Comlubia, Canada. This letter notifies supposed winners of the International Promotions/Prize Sweepstakes Lottery Program, and also contains a counterfeit check which is drawn from the First Bank Longmont in Longmont Colorado.
These are fraudulent letters designed to obtain personal financial information from unsuspecting players who believe they have won a prize in the multi-state Mega Millions game, and from a lottery sweepstakes drawing. The Massachusetts Lottery, and the other member lotteries of the Mega Millions game, are in no way affiliated and are not responsible for the distribution of these letters/checks.
If you, or someone you know, receive one of these counterfeit letters/checks – do not deposit it into your account. This is a counterfeit draft money laundering scheme. The check will bounce and will be sent back to fraudulent organization stamped with your bank’s routing and account information. The sender will then attempt to withdraw funds from your account.
These letters are currently under investigation and the Massachusetts Lottery will inform the public of any new information as it becomes available. Should you be contacted by anyone purporting to be from the Massachusetts Lottery or the Mega Millions organization, please contact us immediately.

Lottery officials have been made aware of other sites that claim to represent the Massachusetts Lottery. These sites are fraudulent sites designed to obtain personal financial information from unsuspecting players who believe they have signed on to the Massachusetts Lottery online. CONSUMER ADVISORY:
The Massachusetts State Lottery would like to advise our players that the Lottery is not sponsoring , nor will our licensed agents honor coupons offering free Lottery products. The coupons are not produced or distributed by the Massachusetts State Lottery.
Statement from the Massachusetts Lottery Regarding the $640,000,000 Jubilee Instant Game and the $200,000 Bonus Instant Game:
Lottery officials state there is a manufacturing error with the latex coating on a small percentage of the tickets in the “$640,000,000 Jubilee” instant game and the “$200,000 Bonus” instant game. On some of these tickets, a few players may have difficulty “scratching” a portion of the latex layer on the games, and ultimately determining whether or not the ticket is a winner. Any Lottery player who has “$640,000,000 Jubilee” or a “$200,000 Bonus” with this “scratching” issue should contact the Lottery immediately so that the Lottery can verify whether or not it is a winning ticket. Prizes will be issued for any ticket verified to be a winner. Replacement tickets will be sent to all players who purchase defective, non-winning “$640,000,000 Jubilee” or “$200,000 Bonus” tickets. The Lottery will continue to monitor this issue and regrets any inconvenience this problem may cause for our players.
