The Massachusetts Lottery last night awarded four fabulous Red Sox-themed prizes a in a second-chance drawing through its Red Sox Instant Ticket. The drawing, held at the Baseball Tavern in Boston, was the third of 10 drawings that will determine the winner of the ultimate Red Sox fan prize – Season Tickets for Life.

The Lottery received over 230,000 entries for the game’s third drawing, and on June 12th selected 2,600 envelopes to win remarkable prizes such as Red Sox game tickets, merchandise, trips, and game-related experiences. Included in that group of prize winners were the four entrants that competed last night for the drawing’s top prizes.

Three lucky players received Red Sox-themed trips, while the fourth contestant won entry into the game’s Grand Prize drawing for lifetime Red Sox season tickets.

Richard Healey of Whitman won a Red Sox Road Trip for Two; Ray Webber of Southbridge won a Red Sox Spring Training Trip for Two, and Suzanne Frisch of Clinton won a Red Sox Cruise Trip for Two.

Mark Burnett, Jr. of Orange – the top prize winner of the evening – won entry into the game’s Grand Prize drawing. He joins Paula Thompson of Southbridge and Thomas Howland of Milton, whose names were selected in earlier drawings, in the quest for Season Tickets for Life.

Hector Diaz of Revere today claimed the largest jackpot ever won in the Massachusetts Lottery’s CASH WinFall game. Diaz, pictured here with Lottery Executive Director Joseph C. Sullivan, matched all six numbers (3-12-23-34-42-44) in the Monday, June 5th CASH WinFall drawing to win the game’s $1,461,286 jackpot.

Diaz was the sole jackpot winner in the drawing. Since all CASH WinFall prizes are one-time lump sum payments, he received a check for the entire $1.46 million jackpot (less state and federal taxes).

Diaz played his CASH WinFall numbers at the Quick Mart located at 225 Broadway in Revere. The store will receive a $14,612.86 commission for selling the winning ticket.

CASH WinFall debuted in September 2004. To play CASH WinFall, players choose six numbers from a field of 1 to 46. The overall odds to win a prize in the CASH WinFall game average one-in-six. The game’s jackpot always starts at a minimum of $500,000. If the jackpot reaches $2 million and is not won, money for that jackpot “winfalls” down to the other prize levels and increases those prize amounts by as much as 10 times. The Lottery received over 180,000 submissions for drawing number one, and on May 5th selected 2,600 entries to win remarkable prizes such as Red Sox game tickets, merchandise, trips, and game-related experiences. Included in that group of prize winners were the four entrants competing for the prizes on Friday.

Thomas Howland of Milton, the top prize winner of the evening, won entry into the game’s Grand Prize drawing for lifetime Red Sox season tickets.

In addition to Mr. Howland’s big win, three other Lottery players each won Red Sox themed-trips. Frank DeFronzo of Hampton, NH, won a Red Sox Cruise Trip for Two, while Diane Dauphin of Lunenburg won a Red Sox Spring Training Trip for Two, and William Doherty of Harwich won a Red Sox Road Trip for Two.

BRAINTREE – A Brockton man claimed the first $1 million prize in the new Red Sox Instant Ticketjust three days after the revolutionary game debuted at Lottery retailers throughout Massachusetts.

Joseph Belanger visited the Lottery’s headquarters shortly after purchasing the winning ticket at Hennessey’s News located in the South Shore Plaza in Braintree yesterday afternoon.

Belanger said that he rarely plays the Lottery but thought he would try his luck at winning the game’s ultimate prize – Red Sox season tickets for life . He bought a single $5 ticket and to his surprise scratched off a $1 million winner. The reality of the win was still settling in as Belanger anxiously waited for his first prize check.

The $1 million is paid over 20 years. Belanger will receive annual payments of $50,000 (less federal and state taxes). When asked what he planned to do with his winnings, Belanger said that “he couldn’t quit his job, but the money would make life more comfortable and help him provide for his immediate family.” Hennessey’s News will receive a $10,000 commission on the sale of the winning ticket.

“The response and enthusiasm for the Red Sox Instant Ticket has been tremendous,” said State Treasurer Tim Cahill, who serves as Chair of the Lottery Commission. “We are pleased that the game is off to a strong start, and hope that the excitement surrounding the ticket continues to grow because the better our games do, the more prizes are won, and the more money we have to return to communities throughout the state.”

The Red Sox Instant Ticket offers over $150 million in cash and Fenway Fantasy Prizes. In addition to traditional cash prizes, the game also features a second chance drawing in which one lucky player will win a Grand Prize of a pair of Red Sox season tickets for life. The Red Sox Instant Ticket will also award other attractive prizes such as Red Sox tickets, merchandise, trips, and game-related experiences.

A single ticket, purchased in Cincinnati, Ohio, matched all six numbers in last night’s Mega Millions drawing to win the $265 million jackpot. It was the sixth-highest jackpot the Mega Millions game has ever offered.

While only one ticket took home the jackpot, the holder of that winning ticket is not the only winner in last night’s Mega Millions drawing. More than 1.8 million tickets nationwide won prizes ranging from $2 all the way up to the jackpot. More than 77,800 of those prize winning tickets were sold in Massachusetts.

The winning numbers in the Tuesday, April 18, 2006 drawing were: 13-14-25-34-50 and the Mega Ball number 6.

In just its first month of play, the Lottery’s new Keno Bonus feature is generating much excitement with players across the Bay State.

Richard Rowse of Pepperell today visited the Lottery’s Braintree headquarters to claim a robust Keno prize that was multiplied four times in value thanks to the game’s new Bonus feature.

The numbers included in Francisco Torres, Jr.’s fortune cookie message brought him much more than good fortune – they yielded the Chicopee resident a Megabucks win of more than $2.4 million.

Torres had been playing the “lucky numbers” (6-19-20-21-37-42) that he found inserted into the cookie for about a month, when to his surprise the numbers were called up during the Saturday, January 14, 2005 Megabucks drawing. He was the sole winner of the game’s $2,403,353 jackpot.

Torres arrived at the Lottery’s Braintree headquarters early today along with his wife Ann, mother Lydia and sister Lydia, to claim his prize. The family joined Torres as he received his first check totaling $123,353 (less taxes) from Lottery Executive Director Joseph C. Sullivan (see attached photo). He will receive annual payments of $120,167.65 (less taxes) for the next 19 years.

The winning Megabucks numbers were played at Convenience Plus #37 on Newton Street in South Hadley.

An East Bridgewater couple was elated to ring in the New Year with a $1 million from the Lottery's Set for Life instant game.

Dana Brueggeman, pictured here with his wife Barbara, claimed the $1 million grand prize on Friday at the Lottery's Braintree headquarters. He will receive a check for $50,000 (less taxes) every year for twenty years.

Brueggeman bought his winning ticket at the Video Store located at 342 North Main Street in Randolph . The store will receive a $10,000 commission for selling the lucky Set for Life ticket.
